Not everyone wants to sit down and read, whether it’s a requirement for school or their enjoyment. But books can be a way to escape reality, even for just a moment. Reading expands thoughts and creates new imaginations, from fighting mythical creatures, being killed by a toxic leader, being drawn to fight and die, or being thrown into a wizard world to better understand magical powers. 

Even reading about the real world and finding fictional characters to relate to is enough to escape what you think you know. Reading is more than just looking at a page with a bunch of words, it is using the imagination and forcing thoughts to create something that never really existed.

Logan Mullins, A junior at Edmond North, is an avid reader that consumes Comic books regularly. 

“Reading gives the audience a view into the mind of someone they aren’t. Not only does it broaden perspective, but it also broadens understanding,” said Logan Mullins. 

There is more to books and understanding than what is seen. Many people think reading and looking at a bunch of words is a complete waste of time, and oftentimes, not something everyone likes to do. It can seem long and boring to read a cluster of words without any imagery. Finding the right book to read can feel daunting. Everyone likes different genres and reading books with distinct settings and themes. 

Mrs. Butler, A History teacher at Edmond North high school, is interested in reading books on history but also enjoys fantasy fiction in her free time. 

“I will always recommend Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, but I am getting into urban fantasy so I appreciate works like Throne of Glass or Ready Player One,” said Mrs. Butler

 Finding a book to read to enjoy can feel very daunting. Here are some Book Recommendations.

“In no particular order: Freakonomics, The Hate U Give, 1984, Animal Farm, Wonder God Loves Man Kills (it’s a comic book who cares it’s still relevant), The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Little Women, Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock Holmes,” recommends Logan Mullins

Finding the right book takes time; however, when given the right resources, finding a book that is just right can be simple and easy. Especially with Reading Digitally Recommendations.
