$50K shocker stuns Baltimore man with gas stop ticket

GWYNN OAK, Md.

— A longtime Maryland Lottery player says he was left in disbelief after discovering his Pick 5 ticket from a Gwynn Oak gas station matched for a $50,000 straight win.

The retired federal employee, a Baltimore County resident, bought the $1 Pick 5 ticket for both the June 9 evening and June 10 midday drawings while at the Woodmoor Shell on Liberty Road. He didn’t check the ticket until the following day.

When he looked up the winning numbers online, he immediately recognized the sequence. He said the combination was one he had been playing for years.

To confirm the win, he brought the ticket to a local retailer who scanned it and confirmed the $50,000 prize. Because of the high amount, he was directed to claim the prize at Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore.

He finalized his claim Thursday and shared plans to use the money for long-needed home improvements and furniture, as well as to save a portion for future needs.

Pick 5 player finally scores on longtime number

The Woodmoor Shell station where the winning ticket was purchased will receive a $500 retailer bonus.

This marks one of several major Pick 5 wins in Maryland in recent weeks, highlighting continued interest in the game among frequent players.

The winner chose to remain anonymous but said he continues to feel grateful and fortunate after the surprise payout.
