Several news sources say that a 6-month-old girl died in Texas after being bitten by her family’s dog.
According to FOX 26, the attack took place in an apartment in the 1300 block of E. James Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.
A neighbour who did not want to be named told KPRC that they called 911 when the child’s mother, who had just moved into the complex and celebrated the child’s sixth month birthday, asked for help at her door.
“She came to my door with a baby in her arms.” There was blood everywhere. “The mother was so sad,” a neighbour told the news source.
People who live nearby told KHOU that the mom kept saying, “God, I trust you, God, I trust you, God,” while holding her hurt baby. A different neighbour, Ken Sheltoe, told the news station that what they saw “wasn’t pretty.”
“The baby’s head was covered in blood.” “Prayers for the baby,” he said. The 6-month-old girl was taken to the hospital after the accident, but she died there from her injuries, according to the news sources.
A spokesman for the City of Baytown named Jason Calder told KHOU that the attack took place inside the flat.
After what happened, Baytown Animal Services came and took two pit bull mix dogs into care. KHOU said the dog was a mix between a red-collared pit bull and another dog. It was about a year old.
KPRC and KHOU both reported that City of Baytown officials said the family informally agreed to sign a surrender order that would let the city put the dog down.
The second animal, a blue-collar pit bull mix, was not part of the attack and was in the cage at the time of the event, according to the news sources.
People tried to get in touch with the city of Baytown and the Baytown police force but did not hear back right away.
