Oakfield, WI — An 81-year-old woman from south central Wisconsin died Tuesday afternoon following a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 151 in Fond du Lac County, authorities confirmed.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred near Thill Road in the Town of Oakfield. Multiple 911 calls came in around the time of the collision, prompting a swift response from sheriff’s deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers.
Two deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, who were in the area on an unrelated assignment, witnessed the crash as it happened and immediately rendered aid to the victims.
The woman, a resident of the Sun Prairie area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 59-year-old man from Waupun was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Preliminary findings suggest the elderly woman was traveling southbound on Highway 151 when she may have experienced a medical emergency, causing her vehicle to veer across the grass median into northbound traffic. Her car struck the Waupun man’s vehicle head-on.
In an attempt to avoid the crash, the Waupun man swerved, resulting in a sideswipe with a third vehicle. No injuries were reported from that vehicle’s occupants.
The crash remains under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
