YOU Have Got to Watch This
Over the last month, Netflix has begun to create even more films and shows. One of Netflix’s most recent shows, “You”, is a ten-episode psychological thriller. Penn Badgley plays the main character, Joe Goldberg, who is a bookstore manager by day, and stalker by night. When Guinevere Beck (Beck) walks into the bookstore, Joe begins to crush on Beck, but the crush soon turns into an obsession, and things turn sinister.
Throughout the show, each episode gets darker. Goldberg and Beck become closer friends, but Goldberg wants more, and won’t stop until he gets it. Goldberg becomes captivated with Beck and will do anything to get her. Goldberg begins to dig further into her life. He meets her friends, family, ex-boyfriends, and teachers. If there is one distraction in her life, Goldberg will make it go away. For one reason; getting Beck all to himself.
Goldberg has more problems than he thought he had and plans to do anything to make the problems go away. An example of this would be Benji Ashby, Beck’s on-and-off entrepreneur boyfriend. Then, there’s Beck’s best friend, Peach Salinger, who is a continuous problem for Beck.
While the first season ends with a cliffhanger, it leaves viewers with numerous questions. It leaves room to believe there will be a second season, the reason being an introduced, but a new character, Candance, is seen in the first season. Candace was Goldberg’s former girlfriend and gives viewers a glimpse further into the way Goldberg thinks and acts.
The cinematography, soundtrack, and production design are just as phenomenal as the show itself. Critics seem to think the same thing, being the show is certified fresh with a 91% from Rotten Tomatoes,
The show itself is extremely class-conscious, intelligent, and frightening, but all in the right ways and places. “You” is recommended by many, so, if you’re looking for a show to binge-watch, “You” is most definitely that show.
