High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest, Suspect Found with Meth and Fentanyl

A police chase across multiple counties ended in South Carolina with the arrest of 33-year-old Matthew Clayton Barber, who was caught with a large amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit was watching a known drug house when Barber sped away in a vehicle, leading officers on a chase through Lincoln County, Gaston County, and into South Carolina.

Officers used stop sticks in Gaston County, flattening one of Barber’s front tires, but he kept driving until he abandoned the vehicle in South Carolina, where he was arrested.

During the arrest, police found 54 grams of meth, 20 grams of fentanyl, two handguns, and three ounces of marijuana in his possession and vehicle. Barber was already being investigated for drug-related offenses before this incident.

He now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking, illegal gun possession, and fleeing from police. He is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center with no bond
