Houston, TX – A shooting at an after-hours nightclub in Houston early Sunday left six people injured, four of whom remain in critical condition, according to police.
Authorities responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims around 3 a.m. at a sports bar located on Hillcroft Avenue, Assistant Chief James Skelton said during a press briefing. The establishment was operating as an after-hours club, a growing concern for law enforcement due to associated crime rates.
According to Skelton, three of the wounded individuals were transported to hospitals by the Houston Fire Department, while the other three arrived at medical facilities in private vehicles. As of Sunday morning, the four critically injured victims were undergoing surgery.
Surveillance footage obtained by police is expected to aid the investigation. Officials are searching for a black Toyota Camry or Corolla with two occupants, believed to be connected to the shooting. Investigators say the shots were fired from outside the club, and all six victims were male.
“We know this is more of an isolated attack,” Skelton stated, though further details regarding the motive remain under investigation.
The incident has reignited concerns about the dangers of unregulated after-hours clubs, which, according to Skelton, often attract crimes such as DUIs and assaults. Houston bars are legally required to stop serving alcohol by 2 a.m., but illicit operations frequently continue beyond those hours. Law enforcement officials say they are working to crack down on such venues to improve public safety.
