Traffic Disruptions Expected as Emergency Sewer Repairs Begin at Western Ave & Chapin St

SOUTH BEND: From March 26 to April 11, weather allowing, repairs to the sewers at the corner of Western Avenue and Chapin Street will slow down traffic at that intersection.

Road users are being asked to take alternate routes and allow more time.

The City of New York’s Department of Public Works says the work will happen in the middle and southern parts of the crossing. Here are the rules and alternate routes:

Northbound Chapin Street: Only eastbound Western Avenue will be able to go through. Users are told to take Western Avenue east, Main Street north, and Washington Street west.

■ Only westbound Western Avenue will be able to pass through on southbound Chapin Street. Road users are told to take Western Avenue west, Olive Street south, and Sample Street east.

People going west on Western Avenue will be able to keep going west through the crossing and turn north onto Chapin Street. It will not be possible to turn left onto Chapin Street.

■ Only southbound Chapin Street will be open to traffic going east on Western Avenue. People in cars won’t be able to go straight through the crossroads or turn north onto Chapin Street. People in cars are told to take Chapin Street south, Sample Street east, and Main Street north.
