Tuesday in Augusta, Georgia, people got off of an American Airlines regional jet that was on the runway because they could smell something burning and see some light smoke in the cabin.

FlightAware, a website that tracks flights, says that American trip 5406, which was run by PSA Airlines, arrived in Augusta after a 36-minute trip from Charlotte.

Passenger Sean O’Conor told the story of the escape while filming it on video. “The cabin was filled with smoke, and we climbed out on the wing.” “Everyone seems to be okay.”

The airline told CNN that the CRJ-900 had “a maintenance issue” after landing safely in Augusta. “Everyone got off the plane and was led to the airport terminal.” We’re sorry for the trouble, but the safety of our customers is our first concern.

FlightAware says that the plane was back in service on Wednesday, but the return trip to Charlotte on that plane was canceled.

CNN was told by American Airlines that on Wednesday, a different plane flying the same route from Charlotte to Augusta also had a technical problem. FlightAware says that after about 20 minutes in the air, that plane, a CRJ-700, looped and came back to Charlotte. After three hours, it took off again and got to Augusta safely.
