Man shot in leg after fleeing suspect near 52nd and Girard in West Philadelphia

The city of Philadelphia Police say a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg late Tuesday night in West Philadelphia after trying to run away from a suspect he noticed getting off a SEPTA bus.

At after 11:15 p.m. on June 18, officers from the 19th District were called to the scene of a male shooting in the 5200 block of West Girard Avenue. After being hit in the right leg, the victim had left the area and gone back to his home on the 5100 block of Chancellor Street.

Emergency medical staff subsequently took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was said to be in stable condition.

Investigators say the victim saw a man suspect get off a SEPTA bus as he was waiting for a bus at 52nd and Girard. The suspect was described as a slim-built, Black male, around the age of 20, wearing a black Under Armour face mask and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The victim reportedly fled south on 600 North Creighton Street after the suspect reached inside a black and blue bookbag. The victim was hit in the leg by the suspect’s subsequent round, according to the police.

Suspect remains at large as investigation continues

The reason behind the shooting is still unknown, and no one has been taken into custody.

The Philadelphia Police Department is looking for any witnesses or security footage that could help identify the perpetrator as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident.

As of Thursday, no new information has been made public.
