Overdose reported at growing homeless encampment in Toms River parking garage

New Jersey’s Toms River.Officials verified that a 20-year-old person seemed to have overdosed Tuesday night in the upper level of the Toms River municipal parking garage, where a homeless camp had lately been established.

When police and emergency personnel arrived, they saw CPR being performed close to a temporary shelter area next to the Ocean County Library’s downtown location. Medical staff began life-saving measures on the site after the subject was discovered to be unconscious.

The victim’s identity and present state of health have not been revealed by authorities. It is yet unknown what chemical was involved in the incident.

Concerns about the encampment continue to be raised.

The overdose site is a part of a homeless camp that has appeared on the city lot in recent weeks.

Since the Ocean County Board of Commissioners approved the campground and Commissioners Frank Sadeghi and Robert Arace publicly expressed their support, the encampment has gained notice.

While authorities evaluate the situation at the scene, the overdose investigation is still ongoing.
