MECHANICSVILLE, Maryland.According to authorities, a 47-year-old man from Mechanicsville was detained and charged with arson after he allegedly set fire to his own house early on Monday and then confessed to burning his parents’ car over the weekend.
Shortly after firemen arrived on the scene of a fire at 27099 Morganza Turner Road at around 1:00 a.m., Michael Robert Guy was arrested. When crews arrived, they discovered flames quickly spreading throughout the attached garage of the house. The house was deemed a complete loss.
Guy was named as the suspect by the Office of the State Fire Marshal investigators, who concluded that the fire was intentionally started. With the help of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, he was taken into custody and transported to the Leonardtown Barracks of the Maryland State Police.
During the interview, Guy also acknowledged that two days prior, he had started another fire. He admitted to lighting his parents’ 2003 Cadillac on fire on Saturday morning, according to investigators, close to the intersection of Ted Drive and Ted Circle in Avenue. Fire marshals had already been investigating that fire.
The suspect is still being held on several arson counts.
Guy was charged with first- and second-degree arson as a consequence of the inquiry. At the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, he is presently being held without bond.
No casualties were recorded in either fire, and officials have not disclosed a potential motive.
With assistance from local law enforcement, the State Fire Marshal’s Office is still looking into the incidents.
A man from Mechanicsville is still incarcerated for reportedly setting fire to both his parents’ car and his own house in different events.
