New Jersey’s Atlantic City.After receiving a tip from an off-duty detective, Atlantic City police on Monday found a stolen, loaded handgun in the waistband of a 15-year-old male and detained him.
The Atlantic City Police Department reports that on June 16, Detective Eric Evans was notified of an armed adolescent in the vicinity of the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue. Officer John Bell arrived to the scene after Evans, who was off duty at the time, gave him the information.
When Officer Bell arrived, he noticed several young men hanging about and recognized one who fit the description. The child was safely taken into custody once more officers arrived.
According to the police, the firearm found in the 15-year-old’s waistline was reported stolen from Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Additionally, the gun was discovered to have been defaced, which usually means the serial number was changed or erased.
The young person, who lives in Atlantic City, was accused of receiving stolen property, unlawfully possessing a weapon, and possessing a pistol that had been defaced.
Police credit off-duty detective for initial tip
Detective Evans’ prompt sharing of information led to this arrest, the department said on social media on Wednesday.
While the inquiry is ongoing, the teenager is still being held. There were no reports of more arrests or injuries.
