Wildwoods Doo Wop Neon Night Tours every Tuesday and Thursday this summer

Wildwood, New Jersey. The Wildwoods are reviving their well-liked Doo Wop Back to the 1950s Neon Night Tours, which give guests an opportunity to see the nation’s largest collection of mid-century resort architecture. From Tuesday until August 24, tours are offered every Tuesday and Thursday.

The tours begin in front of the Doo Wop Experience Museum at 4500 Ocean Avenue and go from 8 to 9:30 p.m. As visitors ride the trolley around the island, which features neon signs, vintage motels from the 1950s and 1960s, and both contemporary and historic Doo Wop buildings, a tour guide provides narration.

The free Wildwoods By-The-Sea Doo Wop Experience Museum offers artifacts and exhibits honoring the design, music, and culture that characterized Wildwood’s mid-century heyday, which guests can explore before or after the excursions. The museum provides an insight into the distinctive architectural style known as Doo Wop, Poplux, or Googie.

Preservation effort continues

The Doo Wop Preservation League, a non-profit group established in 1997, runs the museum and tours. The organization strives to preserve and raise awareness of the collection of resort architecture from the mid-20th century that continues to be a defining feature of the Wildwoods.
