Search warrant in Haverstraw leads to drug arrests and cocaine seizure

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. — Thomas E. Walsh II, the district attorney for Rockland County, revealed the findings of a drug investigation that resulted in two arrests after a search warrant was issued last Thursday.

With the help of the Haverstraw Police Department and the Rockland County REACT team, members of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force carried out a search warrant at a home in the Town of Haverstraw on June 12. Along with $2,306 in cash, police confiscated a white, chunky substance that included cocaine that weighed more than half an ounce.

Authorities detained Yohelina Camilo, 34, and Victor Esteban, 37, after the search. According to New York State law, both defendants were charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, which is a class B felony.

After being arraigned in the Town of Haverstraw Court, they were released on their own recognizance since the charges against them do not qualify as bail offenses, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation’s specifics and the possibility of more charges were not disclosed by the authorities.

An ongoing investigation into drug use

The arrests came as a result of the Drug Task Force’s ongoing investigation into drug transactions in Rockland County. The District Attorney’s Office is still committed to using coordinated law enforcement efforts to thwart local drug trafficking networks.

During the search warrant’s execution, no accidents or injuries were reported. As the matter moves through the legal system, the confiscated evidence will be sent for additional forensic examination.

Future court appearances are anticipated for both suspects. Regarding Esteban and Camilo’s legal representation, the District Attorney’s Office has not made any announcements.

Participating in the operation was the Rockland County REACT team, which regularly helps local law enforcement carry out high-risk search warrants associated with drug operations.
