Cumberland, Maryland. Ben Richard Metheny, 46, was taken into custody by the Cumberland Police Department on Sunday in relation to two outstanding warrants originating from different incidents earlier this month.
After an incident at a house in the 300 block of N. Centre Street on June 6, Metheny was first sought. During the incident, Metheny allegedly used a beer bottle to assault a male victim, according to the authorities. Consequently, the Allegany County District Court issued an arrest warrant.
On June 8, Metheny was charged with violating a court order pertaining to previous fraud and obstruction allegations in a second bench warrant. Law police did not provide specifics about the first allegations.
On Sunday, Metheny was found and taken into custody without any problems. He was sent to the Allegany County Detention Center for processing after his arrest.
He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center after being brought before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance, according to police.
The suspect is still being held without a bond.
Metheny is being jailed without bond pending further court hearings, according to authorities. There is currently no information available about legal representation.
Additional information on the current investigation and potential charges related to the June 6 incident was not made public by the Cumberland Police Department.
Metheny is charged with second-degree assault and noncompliance with a court order. Although second-degree assault is a misdemeanor in Maryland, a conviction can result in serious consequences.
As law enforcement continues to examine the assault’s supporting documentation and witness accounts, the investigation is still ongoing.
