A California School Agrees to Let a Student Go Who Was Accused of Wearing Blackface to a Football Game

In October 2023, a middle school student in California was suspended for allegedly wearing “blackface” to a football game. He later told the school that he was just wearing eye black, which is normal in many sports, and the school agreed to erase his record.

Daniel Ameduri sued Muirlands Middle School in La Jolla, California, on behalf of his son J.A. over the incident on October 13, 2023, that got him suspended for two days and kept him from going to district sports events.

“The false accusations of blackface on J.A.’s permanent school records could have followed him around for decades, affecting both his education and future job prospects,” Said Karin Sweigart, J.A.’s lawyer and a counsel at Dhillon Law Group.

The court accepted the settlement on February 24, and J.A.’s two-day suspension was erased for good. As part of the deal, no official or worker for the district will talk about the ban with other people.

“It’s a relief that the school district has finally corrected this injustice,” he said. “No student should have to fight to clear their name over baseless accusations, which is why organizations like the Center for American Liberty exist—to ensure fairness and protect fundamental rights.”

J.A., who is now a student in high school, was in the eighth grade when the event happened. He went on “Fox & Friends” with his father on January 17, 2024, and said that nothing strange had happened.

“I used to go to a lot of football games when I lived in Texas, and I used to play football, and sometimes we put that on if one of the kids brought it,” he added.

After a few days, J.A.’s father said he was “shocked” when his son was grounded and called into the principal’s office.

The head of the Center for American Liberty, Mark Trammell, told Fox News Digital, “We are so proud of J.A. and his family.” Parents and kids who speak out against this “woke” nonsense in schools win. Parents and kids all over the world should learn from J.A.’s win.

Fox News Digital tried to get a comment from Muirlands Middle School but did not get an answer right away.
