A man is getting better after having his ear ripped off during a fight that got violent on a spring break beach in Florida.
After the fight at Fort Myers Beach on St. Patrick’s Day, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital that 18-year-old Jack Turner was arrested and is being charged with criminal battery.
Officials said that around 5 p.m. on Monday, officers who were patrolling the area were called to a fight.
Deputies were told that the victim, who was not named, had been in a fight and that someone had bit off part of his left ear.
The police report that Fox News Digital looked at says that a witness to the fight showed video of it to them and told them she could hear Turner calling the victim racist slurs and then jumping him from behind.
When deputies watched the video, they saw Turner standing on his back and hitting the victim in the back of the head with a curled fist. The victim was lying face down in the sand.
According to the report, Turner then grabbed the victim by the hair on the back of his head and pressed it into the sand.
After that, Turner seemed to bite the victim in the ear, which caused a “traumatic auricular amputation,” according to the report.
What the police also found out was that the victim and Turner knew each other.
Turner was placed in the Lee County Jail on charges of felony abuse. It wasn’t clear right away if he had a lawyer.
The victim is getting medical care and is seeing an expert for his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Police told Fox News Digital that Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno had said that there would be “zero tolerance for violence of any kind” on the beach.
“Sheriff Carmine Marceno will not stand for any kind of abuse! All tourists and people who live in Lee County can continue to feel safe at Fort Myers Beach!” The sentence said.
Because of the fight, the police said that more deputies will be walking along Fort Myers Beach to “ensure the safety and security of everyone.”
