Beach Hazards Issued for Multiple Counties in New York by NWS

The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazards Statement late Sunday night, warning of strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions along the shores of Lake Ontario.

The advisory, released at 9:59 p.m., went into effect at 11 p.m. Sunday and remains active until 11 a.m. Monday.

According to the alert, swimmers and beachgoers in Wayne, Cayuga, and Oswego counties should stay out of the water during the advisory period due to the increased risk of rip currents and rough wave activity.

“Strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected,” warned the weather service. Officials emphasized that even experienced swimmers could be at risk in such conditions and urged the public to avoid entering the water.

Local residents and visitors are advised to heed posted signs, check for updates from local authorities, and delay water activities until conditions improve.
