ST. LOUIS – People in St. Louis are sad about the death of Brian McKenna, a former sportscaster who was hit and killed while walking early Saturday morning.

McKenna was a well-known person in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood and used to be a radio host on KFNS 590 The Fan. He passed away at 61 years old.

From what the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department knows, McKenna died in a walking accident around 1 a.m. Saturday near the corner of Hampton and Nottingham avenues in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood.

Based on their early findings, the police say the car was going south on Hampton when they hit the pedestrian who was crossing the street.

The police said McKenna was dead at the scene of the accident. Police say the driver stayed at the scene of the accident and is helping them with their investigation.

“Brian was an amazing person who made you smile just by walking into the room,” JB Bommarito, a close friend from St. Louis, wrote on McKenna’s Facebook page. His charismatic nature spread like wildfire. Everybody who knew him found him inspiring because of his good mood, toughness, and sense of humor while he was fighting cancer.

Friends and family also remember McKenna as a man who really wanted to help other people.
