Baltimore, Maryland.According to Maryland Lottery authorities, a guy from Philadelphia almost threw away a $50,000 Powerball win after putting his ticket in a backpack while traveling through Maryland.
The third-tier Powerball prize was claimed by the winner, also known as Philly Jawn, at Maryland Lottery offices on Friday. On June 4, when stopping for snacks on his way home, he bought the ticket at Woodlawn Mart, which is situated at 1818 Woodlawn Drive in Baltimore County.
He found the bag of tickets when he was cleaning up his car more than a week later. He was shocked to discover that one of the Powerball tickets was for $50,000 after scanning them with the Maryland Lottery app.
“When I realized I won, I was ecstatic,” he remarked. This should be the beginning of many victories.
Philly Jawn, an engineer and frequent traveler, has been playing the lottery for four years and frequently selects numbers associated with birthdays in the family. Although he hasn’t told anyone yet, he claimed it’s hard to control his excitement.
Near miss for Philadelphia winner
A player must match the red Power Ball with four white balls in order to win a third-tier Powerball prize. The ticket was only one number away from winning the big prize. The winner stated that he intends to save the remaining funds and utilize them to settle bills.
