Trenton, New Jersey.In a public statement released on Wednesday, former Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli criticized Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) for supporting New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. He accused both members of endorsing extremist views and demanded that Sherrill withdraw her endorsement.
Even Mikie Sherrill finds it odd that she is supporting a socialist, antisemitic, and defund police radical. Ciattarelli wrote in a post that was circulated on social media. Even worse is Mikie’s support for introducing Mamdani’s strategy to New Jersey.
According to Ciattarelli, Sherrill and Mamdani support raising taxes and extending public benefits to people with criminal histories and those who are in the nation illegally. He did not cite any particular pieces of legislation to back up the charge.
In the midst of political tensions, demand an apology
At the end of her piece, Ciattarelli urged Sherrill to immediately apologize to NJ law enforcement and Jewish citizens for her sponsorship. Although no formal accusations or censures have been made against him, Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist who represents Queens, has previously been criticized by political rivals for his views on foreign policy and policing.
Neither Sherrill nor Mamdani has officially addressed Ciattarelli’s comments as of Thursday. Ciattarelli did not specify the endorsement he was referring to in his statement, and there is no proof of an official campaign partnership between Sherrill and Mamdani.
