A brief stretch of pleasant summer weather kicked off the week, but residents should brace for a major warm-up — and possible storms — by the middle and end of next week.
Monday brought mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures, with highs near 81°F and a comfortably cool low of 59°F overnight. Tuesday followed with more sunshine and slightly warmer highs around 83°F, as high pressure temporarily stabilized the region’s weather pattern.
Any lingering showers from the weekend cleared out early Sunday, making way for dry conditions and a return to sunshine. Temperatures remained in the low 80s through the start of the week, but forecasters warned that the calm won’t last long.
By Wednesday, a shift begins. High pressure building to the south will act as a “heat pump,” sending hotter, more humid air into the area. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s from Thursday through next Friday, with heat index values pushing into the upper 90s and even lower 100s.
Meteorologists say heat advisories may be issued by Thursday, as the region faces another round of dangerously high feels-like temperatures. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals.
In addition to the heat, the area will sit on the edge of an upper-level ridge — a position that could fuel scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances return to the forecast from Thursday into next weekend, with slightly cooler highs in the upper 80s by Saturday.
Forecasters continue to monitor the developing pattern closely, urging residents to stay alert to changing weather conditions as another summer heat wave settles in.
