Driver Killed after Crashing into Parked Semi-Truck on 91 Freeway in Riverside County

A devastating crash involving a sedan and a parked semi-truck claimed one life just before midnight Wednesday on the westbound 91 Freeway at La Sierra Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Video footage from KNN shows the aftermath of the collision, with the sedan crushed beneath the trailer of the big rig along the freeway’s right-hand shoulder. The top half of the car was severely mangled, with the vehicle wedged deep under the truck’s trailer.

CHP officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and confirmed that the sedan’s driver had died on impact. The third westbound lane of the freeway remained closed until about 4:30 a.m. Thursday for the investigation and cleanup.

According to KNN, Riverside City Fire crews initially called for an extrication unit, but the request was canceled when it became clear the driver could not be saved.

The semi-truck driver, who was uninjured, reportedly told authorities that he had pulled over onto the shoulder to repair his lights when the sedan rear-ended his vehicle. CHP said no other injuries were reported.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released, and CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
