Fatal shooting on I-70 in Frederick County under investigation by Maryland State Police

Mount Airy, Maryland A fatal shooting on Interstate 70 in Frederick County late Saturday night is being investigated by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit.

Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, 20, of Silver Spring, has been identified as the victim. He was declared dead at the spot by emergency medical services.

Reports of a shooting on eastbound I-70 near Maryland Route 27 prompted troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack to arrive to the scene at around 11:55 p.m. on June 14.

At the scene, police found a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck. Urrea and five other people were inside the car. After being shot, the motorist was taken to a trauma facility. The identity of the driver has not been made public by authorities. The other three passengers were unharmed, however one refused medical attention after being assessed on the spot.

Preliminary investigation and appeal for information

Investigators said the shooting happened at approximately 11:40 p.m., just after the group had left an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds. The victims were hit by gunshots from another car on I-70 heading east.

The public is being asked for help by Maryland State Police. Police urged anyone having dashcam footage between 11:30 p.m. to midnight on eastbound I-70 in Frederick County should call the Frederick Barrack at 301-600-4150. Additionally, authorities are urging anyone with more information regarding the shooting to come forward.

Detectives are still searching for suspects and a motive, so the investigation is still ongoing.

After one person is killed and another is injured in gunshots on I-70, police are looking for leads.
