FHP finds a broken-down van with 20 people inside on I-10 in Tallahassee and calls ICE

This week, several people were arrested in the capital city of Florida by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol found two broken-down vans 100 miles apart on Thursday afternoon, one in Pensacola and one in Tallahassee. They were both on Interstate 10. Before the cases were given to ICE, troopers stopped to help.

The Democrat was told by FHP Cpl. PJ Shaw that while helping the drivers near mile marker 217, the officer found 20 people in the broken-down van.

“The driver, a suspected Latin Kings gang member, was caught speeding, recklessly endangering the public, and was arrested for driving without a license and cited for multiple open containers,” the agency said. “A passenger was wanted in St. Louis for DUI with injury.”

The remaining 10 were given to HSI Tampa, with the note that “five were in the country illegally from Honduras and Mexico.”

There were no other details known for either case.
