Fort Myers, FL — A late-night gym visit took a bizarre and criminal turn when a Florida man stripped naked, ran through a Planet Fitness, and attempted to start a fire before being arrested while hiding in a tanning bed, authorities said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at the Planet Fitness located on South Tamiami Trail. Just before closing time, 25-year-old Henrry Antunez-Avarado reportedly began acting erratically after staff asked him to leave.
Instead of exiting the building, deputies say Antunez-Avarado removed all his clothing and began sprinting naked throughout the gym. Alarmed employees contacted authorities immediately.
Surveillance footage captured Antunez-Avarado entering multiple rooms while completely nude, at one point lying down on a hydro massage bed. Investigators also say he climbed into the ceiling, knocking down several tiles throughout the facility, and attempted to start a fire in a bathroom before ultimately crawling into a tanning bed to hide from law enforcement.
When deputies arrived, they discovered Antunez-Avarado concealed inside the tanning bed and took him into custody without further incident.
He was charged with indecent exposure, arson, criminal mischief, and providing false information to law enforcement.
According to the sheriff’s office, Antunez-Avarado has a prior criminal history, including convictions in 2023 for attempted burglary, trespassing, and loitering/prowling.
He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail pending further proceedings.
