NJ’s Island Heights As they celebrated Flag Day, kids from Island Heights Elementary School joined Mayor Doyle and local residents to consider the meaning of the American flag and its principles.
Students referred to as the Sea Devils attended the ceremony and heard speakers explain the deeper significance of the stars and stripes. There are more than simply stars and stripes on the American flag. According to Ocean County Commissioner Frank Sadeghi, “We see stories of courage, kindness, and working together.”
The occasion highlighted how the colors of the flag—blue for togetherness, white for honesty and justice, and red for bravery—have symbolic meaning. The necessity of looking out for one another as a community and as a country was emphasized in the message.
Those in attendance were reminded that saluting the flag is more than just paying respect to a symbol; it is a pledge to defend the principles that make communities, states, and the nation stronger. The speaker went on to say, “We pledge to be the kind of citizens who improve our towns, our state, and our nation for everyone.”
Young people encouraged to uphold traditions
The importance of youth in upholding national ideals was another theme of the festival. Participants were informed that our young people are the stewards of our culture and will continue our traditions of honor, bravery, unity, and patriotism.
A collective statement of pride in the flag and everything it stands for for all Americans marked the end of the event.
Together with local authorities, Island Heights students paid tribute to the flag and considered its timeless significance.
