Kansas Babysitter Checking for ‘Monsters’ Discovers Man Hiding Under Child’s Bed Sheriff

GREAT BEND, Kan. — Police say a 27-year-old man was caught after a babysitter in Kansas found him hiding under a child’s bed.

A babysitter at a house near Great Bend was putting the kids to bed on Monday around 10:30 p.m., when one of the kids told her there was a monster under their bed.

According to the police, the babysitter looked under the bed to reassure the child that there was nothing there. Instead, she saw a man hiding there. A fight is said to have happened, and the mother and a child were both knocked down.

The man left the house before the police arrived, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was finally found to be someone who used to live at the house but couldn’t go back because of an order to protect them from abuse.

The sheriff’s office said that officers were still looking for the man in the morning. He was found close to the house again, and after a short foot chase, he was caught.

It is suspected that the 27-year-old man kidnapped, broke into, battered, put a child in danger, obstructed a police officer, and broke a protection from abuse order. He has been booked into the Barton County Jail. He has a $500,000 bond that keeps him in jail.

Formal charges have not been filed yet; Nexstar’s KSN does not name suspects until they have been charged officially in court.
