Washington, DC The Metropolitan Police Department reported that a woman has been detained on a second-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old male inside an apartment building in Southeast Washington on Friday afternoon.
Around 2:28 p.m., Seventh District officers were called to a stabbing that had occurred inside a home in the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue SE. An adult male victim who had been stabbed was discovered unconscious and not breathing. He was declared dead at the site despite the efforts of DC Fire and EMS.
Devante Offutt, a resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was identified as the victim.
At the scene, Deja Hines, 25, of Southeast Washington, DC, was taken into custody by police. Investigators said they recovered a knife as evidence.
Police say case is domestic-related
Investigators concluded that the stabbing was domestic in origin. Second Degree Murder while Armed is the charge against Hines.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing were not further disclosed by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Offutt’s passing brings the total number of homicides being investigated in the District this year to a record high.
