A bizarre low-speed police chase unfolded Saturday afternoon in central Los Angeles when a man allegedly stole a work truck and drove it at a crawl through city streets — with three flat tires.
According to reports, the unidentified suspect crept along at just 5 mph, so slowly that a group of unsuspecting cyclists casually pedaled past him during the pursuit. The strange scene began after sheriff’s deputies deployed spike strips on the Pacific Coast Highway to stop the stolen vehicle, damaging three of its tires.
But the driver continued on undeterred, meandering through red lights and swerving erratically — even mounting sidewalks — as a lone police cruiser followed closely behind.
The suspect occasionally leaned out the window to shout at nearby drivers as the barely functional truck bounced its way through traffic.
After a grueling 90-minute pursuit, deputies finally executed a PIT maneuver to bring the chase to an end. The truck spun out and came to a halt, allowing officers to arrest the driver without further incident.
No injuries were reported.
