GAITHERSBURG, MD — Montgomery County police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in Silver Spring last December, officials announced Wednesday.
The homicide occurred on December 16, when officers and fire rescue personnel responded to a report of a person down in the 8000 block of Blair Mill Road. Upon arrival, they found 49-year-old Mynor Rene Lara Salguero suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Lara Salguero’s death was a homicide, leading detectives to launch an extensive investigation.
Detectives later identified 38-year-old Bulfrano Martinez-Maldonado as having been with Lara Salguero shortly before his death. Martinez-Maldonado was taken into custody in Washington, D.C., in January on an unrelated outstanding warrant. During his arrest, a DNA sample was collected.
DNA evidence links suspect to homicide
The Montgomery County Crime Laboratory analyzed the DNA sample and determined it was connected to evidence recovered from the homicide scene, linking Martinez-Maldonado directly to the killing.
On Tuesday, detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Martinez-Maldonado with first-degree murder in the death of Lara Salguero.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive or additional details about the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
