Maryland woman wins $50,000 top prize on lottery scratch-off ticket

Columbia, Maryland.Following a reminder from a store clerk, a Columbia woman purchased the winning ticket and won the top prize of $50,000 from a Maryland Lottery scratch-off.

On June 17, the inhabitant of Howard County, who uses the pseudonym Winston/Rock for publicity, went to the Quick Stop Food Mart to purchase her usual terminal games. When the clerk shouted out to remind her of her regular routine, she almost left the store without buying any scratch-offs.

“You forgot to get your scratch-offs,” he remarked. Winston/Rock remembered when she picked up her award at the Baltimore Lottery Headquarters. She bought several $5 tickets, including the lucky Mosaic Money scratch-off, when she went back to the vending machine.

Inside the store, she scanned and scratched the tickets. She scanned the last ticket after several losing ones and saw an unexpected message. At that moment, I had lost hope, but then the message instructed me to take it to the lottery, she added. The clerk verified that the winner had won $50,000.

Howard County School System employee Winston/Rock kept the ticket, locked it in a safe, and picked up her award on Monday.

A bonus is given to the retailer for a successful ticket sale.

The Maryland Lottery will give the Quick Stop Food Mart, 10750 Hickory Ridge Road in Columbia, a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Winston/Rock informed lottery officials that she intends to use the winnings to support her family, invest, and save some for an impending new great-grandchild.

The Maryland Lottery’s $5 Mosaic Money scratch-off game offers several $50,000 top prizes.
