Tens of millions of people from the Midwest to the Southeast will have another tense week because more people are afraid that the U.S. could be hit by another round of bad weather that lasts for several days.
March is usually the start of the busy spring severe-weather season. This year, the risk is higher than usual because of last week’s deadly severe weather outbreak that hit the whole country.
Forecasters will keep an eye on the chance of strong to severe thunderstorms this week as we get closer to the middle of the week and again as we get ready for the weekend.
The FOX Forecast Center said that bad weather could get worse across the Ark-La-Tex region on Wednesday as an upper-level low-pressure system moves east from the Southwest into the southern Plains.
However there is still some doubt about how strong and where the system is located. One computer model of the weather shows a stronger system with strong upper-level winds, which could help the storm grow.
Another model, on the other hand, shows a smaller system that would not cover as much of a storm.
Parts of Texas and the Ark-La-Tex region are likely to get wet from the Gulf, but it’s hard to say how likely it is that bad weather will happen because the surface features are changing so quickly.
Make sure you get the free FOX Weather app and turn on notifications so you know when the weather changes.
A stronger upper-level disturbance is likely to move from the Plains to the eastern U.S. on Friday and Saturday, which will increase the risk of severe weather.
“This is an update as of this morning,” Kendall Smith, a meteorologist for FOX Weather, said. “The Storm Prediction Center has made things even more dangerous.” As of now, there is a level 3 out of 5 risk for parts of the Southeast and mid-South on Friday and Saturday.
It will be pulled north into the Mississippi Valley on Friday by a surface low that is getting deeper. By Saturday, it will be in the Southeast.
The NOAA Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said that severe storms with a chance of tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail are likely to hit the middle and lower Mississippi Valley on Friday. These storms will move from the Ark-La-Tex to these areas. “The severe risk will shift east toward the Southeast on Saturday.”
The SPC said it’s still not clear how bad the weather threat is in the north and east, and that the estimate is likely to change as the week goes on.
The people in the danger area are being told to “prepare now” for the possibility of severe weather and to keep an eye on the forecast.
On Sunday, towns from the Southeast to the mid-Atlantic could also be hit by worse weather. That’s still a few days away, but the FOX weather Center will keep an eye on the weather and let you know when they find out anything new.
