In order to avoid bankruptcy, the well-known Mexican restaurant company On the Border is closing down several locations in Arizona. Some restaurants in Mesa, Phoenix, Tucson, and Peoria are affected, which means that regular customers will have fewer places to eat.
Costs are going up and customers’ habits are changing, so the company has to close some stores. Jonathan Tibus, the Chief Restructuring Officer of the company, said, “Consumers’ preferences for eating out versus staying in have a big effect on casual dining restaurants.” He also said that restaurant menu prices have gone up faster than shopping prices because of inflation, which makes it harder for businesses to make money.
The company had 60 sites across the country when it filed for bankruptcy, but more than 70 of them have already closed. The restructuring has touched about 2,800 workers, so the restaurant business is still facing economic uncertainty.
Places in Arizona Are Affected
Arizona sites that are going to close are:
1710 S. Power Rd.,
Mesa; 5005 E. Ray Rd.,
Phoenix; 5205 E. Broadway Blvd.,
Tucson; 7873 W. Bell Rd., Peoria
The closings are another problem for Arizona’s eating scene. Inflation and changing spending habits are still changing the restaurant business.
