Washington, D.C. While taking pictures of the cherry blossoms on D.C.’s Tidal Basin, a family noticed that former President Barack Obama was in the background of one of the pictures.
They were thrilled when the 44th president showed up in family pictures early Monday.
As mom Portia Moore put it, “It was perfect.”
While her son and daughter stood under a cherry tree, family photographer Briana Inell took a picture. Moore wanted to make sure her kids were safe.
I’m watching my son, of course, to make sure he doesn’t fall into the water. “He’s 20 months old,” she told him.
It wasn’t clear to her what her husband said at the same time.
“My husband said, ‘That’s Obama!'” I had no idea what he was saying. I said, “Yeah, whatever.” Moore remembered what she said, “I’m looking at Preston right now.”
She asked her husband, “What did you just say?” as she picked up their son.
He came back with, “That’s Obama!”
“I asked, ‘Did we get a picture?'” When we went to the camera, she looked back and said, “We got it!” Moore said.
Obama wore a baseball cap and took a casual walk along the Tidal Basin in the morning. Along the way, he posed for pictures with little Belle and Preston Thomas.
The shooter, Inell, said she will remember the moment.
“I usually edit all the tourists out of the backgrounds for all my clients,” she said. “But I’m not going to edit this person out of this picture.”
Can we say for sure that Moore knows which picture will be on her family’s Christmas card?
“Oh my goodness.” 100% of the time. That didn’t even cross my mind. She said, “Yes, it is!”
She would tell Obama, “Come to next year’s shoot,” if she could go back and talk to him. The date, time, and place have not changed. We’ll be here.
Later, Obama saw the picture on Instagram and wrote, “Preston and Belle, I hope you enjoyed peak bloom!” I’m sorry I got in the way of the shot.
He also sent pictures of the peak bloom that he had taken in the Tidal Basin.
