Police say there is evidence that the former U.S. attorney's death was caused by natural causes

When Virginia police look into how former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber died, they say that everything they have found goes to natural causes.

Aber was the top prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia for more than three years. Alexandria police said Tuesday that the investigation into his death will not end until the medical examiner’s office makes a final decision.

Police said in a statement, “Defibrillators have found no evidence that Ms. Jessica Aber’s death was caused by anything other than natural causes.” The investigation into her death is still going on.

Around 9:20 a.m. Saturday, police were called to a report of a person who wasn’t responding and found Aber, 43.

A family friend told NBC News that police think she died because of a long-term health problem.

Aber was chosen by President Joe Biden to be the U.S. attorney for the district on August 10, 2021. He was then approved by the Senate.

While she was deputy chief of the criminal section before she was named U.S. attorney, she had been an assistant U.S. attorney for the district since 2009 and an assistant U.S. attorney before that.

Aber quit her job as U.S. attorney on January 20, the same day that President Trump was sworn in for a second term.

It is the president’s job to choose U.S. lawyers, and the president can fire them at any time.

“Aber was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a person,” said Erik S. Siebert, the U.S. attorney for the district.
