Rapper, gang members sentenced to life for ambush shooting that killed Brooklyn teen

Brooklyn, New York.Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said Tuesday that two members of the Choo gang, including Brooklyn rapper Culture Bermudez, also known as CoachDaGhost, were given long jail sentences for the execution-style shooting of three young men in Canarsie that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old.

Naquan Pruitt, 30, of Pennsylvania, was given a sentence of 25 years to life in prison, and Bermudez, 31, of Brooklyn, was given a term of 60 years to life. In relation to the March 2021 incident, both were found guilty of two charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree murder.

In early May, the defendants were found guilty after a trial with two jurors. The two allegedly saw their victims while driving across rival gang territory and then executed the attack in broad daylight, according to the prosecution.

Bryan Sanon, 17, was killed in this heinous murder, and two other guys, ages 19 and 20, suffered severe injuries, Gonzalez stated in a statement. He went on to say that the enormity of this heinous act is reflected in these lengthy penalties.

After suspects circled the street, victims were ambushed at the crossroads.

On the morning of March 13, 2021, Pruitt drove a rented Toyota Camry through Brownsville and Canarsie with Bermudez and another shooter inside, according to trial testimony. The victims were walking near the junction of East 82nd Street and Farragut Road when Pruitt stopped after making two full circuits of the block.

Then Bermudez and the unnamed front passenger got out of the car and started shooting. Sanon had several wounds, including a gunshot wound to the chest that proved fatal. The 20-year-old was wounded in the face but lived, while the 19-year-old was shot in both legs.

On May 25, 2021, Pruitt was taken into custody in Pennsylvania; the following month, he was extradited. On July 6, 2021, Bermudez was captured in Georgia and brought back to New York in December of the same year.

A gang attack that murdered a youngster and injured two others resulted in a Brooklyn rapper and his collaborator receiving sentences of decades in prison.
