Rapper GloRilla was arrested this week on felony drug charges after law enforcement officials discovered what they described as “a significant amount of marijuana” in her Atlanta home during an investigation into a burglary.
GloRilla, whose legal name is Gloria Woods, voluntarily turned herself in to authorities on Tuesday, July 23, and was released the same day on a $22,260 bond, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Burglary Prompted Police Response
Deputies were called to Woods’ residence around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday following reports of a burglary. At the time of the incident, Woods was not home, as she had performed during the halftime show at the WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
According to investigators:
- Three suspects broke into the home and were actively stealing items.
- An occupant inside the home fired a weapon at the intruders, who fled the scene.
- None of the suspects appeared to have been injured.
- The suspects have not been located, despite what the sheriff’s office called “an extensive search.”
Drug Charges Follow Discovery During Search
While deputies were investigating the burglary, they reportedly noticed a “strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics.” This led to a search warrant being issued by a drug task force.
During the search, authorities said they found marijuana “in plain view inside the master bedroom closet.” As a result, Woods was charged with:
- Felony possession of marijuana
- Possession of a controlled substance
Woods’ attorneys, Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg, criticized the sheriff’s office for what they called misplaced priorities. In a joint statement, they said:
The suspects fled with “high value jewelry.”
Woods had family members staying in the home who were “traumatized” by the incident.
“No arrest warrants have been issued for the violent home invaders. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect. This is our tax dollars at work—absolutely unbelievable.”
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office defended its actions, with Sheriff Ron Freeman stating:
“The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice. At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
The burglary remains under active investigation, and authorities say they have recovered physical and forensic evidence believed to be linked to the suspects.
