Trenton, New Jersey. In an interview, Representative Mikie Sherrill affirmed that Governor Phil Murphy will support her campaign for governor, citing his track record on pension and school financing as a means of reaching New Jersey voters.
Sherrill stated that she intends to steer the state in a different way on a number of crucial topics, but she also acknowledged that there are undoubtedly areas where, whether it’s the pension fund or school finance, I think he’s really made some major decisions in some key areas.
Sherrill emphasized her independence from Murphy, rejecting the term “Murphy 2.0” and highlighting differences in healthcare, electricity costs, and housing policies. Citing one of the lowest housing inventories in the nation and a 50% increase in housing costs over the previous five years, she stated, “I really think we’ve got to do more to build houses.”
Sherrill stated that national factors, such as federal budget decisions that she claims have a direct impact on New Jersey, would influence the campaign in addition to state-specific concerns. Jack Ciattarelli, her Republican opponent, came under fire from her for his support of President Donald Trump and his failure to consider the local effects of federal policy.
Murphy’s backing, according to Sherrill, will help draw attention to Democratic policy victories while her campaign focuses on cutting expenses and defying established interests.
