Southern Wisconsin Man Arrested for Fourth OWI After Found Asleep Behind Wheel on Highway

Arlington, Wis. – A 48-year-old man from southern Wisconsin was arrested on multiple charges after authorities say he was found asleep behind the wheel of a disabled vehicle on a highway in Columbia County over the weekend.

According to information released by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and reported by WFRV, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, near Highway 60 and Interstate 90/94 in the village of Arlington.

Off-Duty Sergeant First Reported the Disabled Vehicle

Officials say an off-duty Columbia County sheriff’s sergeant initially noticed the disabled vehicle stopped on the roadway and contacted authorities. When the sergeant approached the vehicle, the driver was observed slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene and later identified the driver as Alex C. Feggestad, age 48, of McFarland, Wisconsin.

Deputies Noticed Signs of Impairment

After arriving on scene, deputies were able to wake Feggestad, at which point they allegedly observed clear signs of intoxication. Authorities say their investigation led them to determine that Feggestad was impaired while operating the vehicle.

The vehicle was located along a busy highway corridor, raising additional safety concerns for both the driver and other motorists traveling through the area at the time.

Arrest and Charges Filed

Feggestad was taken into custody and transported to the Columbia County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Operating While Impaired – 4th offense

  • Resisting an Officer

A fourth OWI offense in Wisconsin is treated as a felony-level charge, carrying significantly higher penalties, including possible prison time, extended license revocation, and mandatory ignition interlock requirements.

No Further Details Released

Authorities have not released additional information regarding court dates, blood alcohol concentration results, or whether anyone else was placed in danger during the incident.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains limited to the charges filed, and no injuries were reported.
