Philadelphia Weekend Weather Storms Possible after Heat and Humidity

Philadelphia — After a brief reprieve from the sweltering conditions typical of July, the Philadelphia region is once again bracing for a return of heat and humidity starting Thursday, with even hotter days and storm chances ahead.

According to meteorologist Bill Kelly, temperatures on Thursday are expected to climb back to 90°F, marking the start of a multi-day stretch of oppressive weather. Friday will be even more intense, with highs nearing 100°F when factoring in the humidity and the “feels-like” temperature.

“Dew points will rise into the mid-70s,” Kelly reported, “meaning the air will feel thick and sticky, and stepping outside will feel like walking into a steam bath.”

Residents are advised to prepare for uncomfortable conditions, including the return of round-the-clock air conditioning. The cool, window-open nights of earlier this week will be a memory — at least for now.

Storms on the Horizon

The weather pattern also becomes more unsettled heading into the weekend. Friday evening brings the next chance of thunderstorms, including the possibility of isolated strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center currently places the region under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather, primarily for Friday night.

While no major weather systems are expected over the weekend, conditions will remain unstable enough to warrant attention.

“We’re not under any official weather alerts for the weekend yet,” Kelly said, “but we’ll be tracking developments closely and keeping the public informed.”
