A 21-year-old man from Honduras is accused of killing a mother of five in an Atlanta suburb. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement told CNN station WSB-TV that the man was in the US illegally.
ICE told WSB-TV that Hector Sagastume Rivas crossed the US border without permission a little more than four years ago. He was first taken by US Customs and Border Protection. In July 2023, more than two years later, he was told he had to leave the country.
The Department of Homeland Security showed a news story about the case in a post on X on Sunday. The post said, “President Trump and Secretary Noem will not allow criminal illegal aliens, including accused murderers, to be free on America’s streets.”
To find out more, CNN has called ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Cobb County Police Department. Additionally, CNN is trying to find a lawyer for Sagastume Rivas.
A warrant for Sagastume Rivas’ arrest was received by WSB. He is charged with felony murder in the death of Camillia Williams in Marietta. The order says that Sagastume Rivas killed Williams by putting her in a chokehold and then kneeling on her neck with his “full body weight.” This happened late on March 11 or early on March 12.
March 13: The 52-year-old man’s body was found in the woods, hidden under a bush. After five days, Sagastume Rivas was caught. He is being held without a bond.
CNN affiliate WANF says Williams was born in Louisiana and is a mother of five and a grandma. Her family wants to know what happened when she died.
Arsene Williams, Camillia’s brother, told WSB that Camillia had been scared about a guy she thought was following her in the days before she died.
Arsene Williams said, “She called the guy a weirdo, and from what I understand, he stuck around until he caught her by herself and did what he did.”
In a statement, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said he was sorry Williams was “brutally taken from this world” and promised that the state would look for justice for her death.
Kemp said, “People who hurt our people will be dealt with by our justice system to the fullest, and if they are here illegally, we will not hesitate to work with our federal partners to make sure they leave our state and country.”
ICE told WSB in a similar statement, “Criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety should not be free to put communities at risk.” ICE is still determined to work with law enforcement to catch and deport people who break the law.
WSB reports that ICE has put in an immigration detainer with the Cobb County Jail to make sure that Sagastume Rivas stays in jail while his removal hearings are going on.
