It’s getting harder and harder to find a city where your income can support a comfortable lifestyle. But a new SmartAsset study shows which big cities in the U.S. will be the most affordable in 2025.
With an estimated $85,197 per year, Indianapolis, Indiana, is the least expensive place for a single adult to live in comfort. But families in the city have to pay more; it costs $222,726 to feed a family of four.
Families can live most cheaply in Memphis, Tennessee, where two working adults would need $198,349 to live comfortably. Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Albuquerque are some other places that are easy on the wallet.
On the other hand, San Jose, California, has surpassed New York City to become the most expensive city. Single people who live there need $147,430 a year to live comfortably.
