Three Arrested After South Mississippi Man Dies Trying to Break Up Fight, Police Say

Police say a guy from Moss Point died Saturday when he tried to stop a big fight and was hit by a car.

Moss Point Police said they had caught three people involved in what they called a “altercation” on Lilly Circle. Bruce Lynd Jr., the coroner for Jackson County, said the death was a murder.

The cops said that the victim was 23-year-old Demond Tayveion Ross from Moss Point.

After a fight between a group of women on Saturday afternoon, police said a “large crowd” had formed. Police say Ross was beaten by several people when he tried to stop the fight.

Police say that Ross was hit by another attack victim as he tried to drive away.

Three people are being charged with aggravated attack by police: Roy Deanglo Reeves Jr., 26, Rubby O’Neal Reeves, 45, and Joseph Dietril Carson, 35. They are all from Moss Point.

Lynd said on Tuesday that Ross died from hard force injuries after an autopsy. But he said it wasn’t clear yet if the injuries were from being hit by a car, being beaten up, or both.

The police did not say what started the fight or how many people were there. In a news statement, the police said that the charges might change depending on the results of the autopsy and that they expect to make more arrests.
