Three people were killed in a fiery accident on Lexington's New Circle Road

According to the Lexington Fire Department, three people were killed in a crash on New Circle Road in Lexington on Monday.

The Lexington Traffic Management Centre says the accident happened on New Circle Road near Family Circle just after 12:30 p.m., between Liberty Road and Trade Centre Drive. Chief Derek Roberts of the Lexington Fire Battalion said that a U-Haul truck and a construction van crashed into each other, setting the van on fire.

The truck had two people in it, and the van had one. Roberts said that all of the people inside were pronounced dead at the scene.

William Kelly Curtin, 47, of Lexington and Emma Hayden, 55, of Lexington were named as the people who died in the truck late Monday night. The truck was being driven by Curtin.

Oleksandr Tyshko, 48, of Nicholasville was named as the van driver.

The Lexington Police Department says that a third car was also in the accident and had slight damage. The reason for the accident wasn’t known right away.

The collision is being looked into by the city’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.

As far as the Kentucky State Police know, this is the first crash in Fayette County with three or more deaths since June 2021, when six people died in a head-on accident on Interstate 75.

Between Winchester Road and Liberty Road, New Circle Road was closed in both ways while police worked on the scene. The traffic control centre said the road was open again just after 3 p.m.

It was the second big accident on Monday morning on New Circle Road. The first one happened a few hours ago in a work zone on New Circle Road near Georgetown Road. Four people were hurt and taken to the hospital.
