Two Students Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Teacher at Florida High School

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department says that two students were arrested on Thursday for reportedly beating a teacher badly at a high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Video of the fight shows 19-year-olds Jayvis L. McClover and Roddrick McQueen approaching a teacher at Dillard High School on Thursday around 2 p.m. and “verbally threatening to attack him,” according to police.

They then “intentionally launched a synchronized physical attack” on the teacher. Both of them are students at Dillard High School. The teacher fell to the ground after McClover and McQueen “repeatedly punched her in the face and head with closed fists,” according to the cops.

As the teacher lay on the ground “in a fetal position attempting to guard himself against injury,” the students kept punching him, according to the police.

The two students were attacked by two students at Dillard High School. The teacher was pulled away by security staff and was hurt on the face with “swelling and bruising.” He also said his back hurt from the attack.

Police say that both McClover and McQueen were charged with battery on a public or private school staffer. As of right away, it wasn’t clear if they had a lawyer.

A Florida Department of Education board member named Daniel Foganholi Sr. said in a statement that the event was a “failure of respect, discipline, and accountability.”

“A teacher shouldn’t have to worry about their safety at work. Foganholi said, “Schools should be places to learn, not battlegrounds.”

To stop these kinds of things from happening, he said, we need “stronger disciplinary policies, better security measures, and a culture that respects and protects our teachers.”

“If we fail to act, we fail our educators, our students and our future,” said Foganholi. “Enough is enough.”

Court papers show that both McClover and McQueen were told not to go back to Dillard High School.
