In a message sent to the whole University of Kentucky campus Friday afternoon, President Eli Capilouto said that some graduate students’ visas had been taken away.
It was written in Capilouto’s message that the Department of Homeland Security told UK that it was taking back some F-1 student cards. The president said it was a “small number” of kids, but he didn’t say how many. He said that people from the university called the students to give them information and help.
Capilouto said, “The university will always follow the law.” “We will also make it very clear that our more than 1,300 international students and scholars are important parts of this unique community.”
Capilouto said that UK is “working to understand changing federal policies” that have an impact on campuses. International students in the UK should go to the university’s International Student and Scholars Services center if they have any questions.
The news at the university in Kentucky comes after the Trump administration tried to remove more people. Last week, Marco Rubio, who is Secretary of State, said that the State Department had taken back at least 300 student cards.
Head of the University of Louisville, Gerry Bradley, told reporters Thursday morning that at that time, no students there had their visas taken away.
