Victim Identified after Four-Vehicle Crash claimed Life in Northport

Police have identified the woman killed in a major four-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Northport as 36-year-old Vonchelle Renee Gamble of Tuscaloosa.

According to Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter of the Northport Police Department, Gamble was behind the wheel of a U.S. Postal Service mail truck when the crash occurred on Highway 43 near the intersection with Highway 171. The Postal Service confirmed Gamble was one of their employees.

Three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash, though police described them as minor.

Northport’s Accident Reconstruction Unit shut down the highway for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the deadly collision. The road was reopened to traffic later in the evening.

At this time, Carpenter said there are no criminal charges under consideration.

Gamble’s death marks a tragic loss for both her family and the local USPS community. The investigation remains ongoing.
