West Virginia Man Held Girlfriend Hostage, Arrested After High Speed Chase in Maryland

Maryland’s Allegany County.After reportedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and escaping from police during a high-speed chase in Allegany County, a West Virginia man was caught on several charges, including assault and kidnapping.

After receiving a complaint of a disturbance, deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the 13000 block of Upper Georges Creek Road. A woman was seized against her will by her ex-boyfriend, who had left the area, according to a witness at the scene who told deputies.

A Maryland State Police trooper from the Cumberland Barrack saw a car driving recklessly and at high speeds in Allegany County while the investigation was in progress. After conducting a traffic stop and a brief foot pursuit, the trooper arrested the defendant for alleged DUI violations.

Before being turned over to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect—who was identified as 32-year-old Tony Lee Gallen II of Wiley Ford, W.Va.—was processed by Maryland State Police on DUI-related charges.

After being found and given medical attention, the victim was turned over to sheriff’s deputies. There were no reported significant injuries.

A kidnapping suspect is charged with several felonies.

For his first court appearance, Gallen was sent to the Allegany County Detention Center. The allegations against him include first- and second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and threat of mass violence.

Both the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office are still looking into the situation.
